About Peter Francis MD

Peter Francis, MD, PhD, possesses 18 years of experience in the field of clinical ophthalmology. He serves as President and founder of Pacific Ophthalmology Consulting, LLC, in Portland, Oregon, and as Chief Medical Officer of Retro-Sense Therapeutics, LLC, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He previously was the Chief Operating Officer of DNA Guide, a company that offered genetic data management solutions to clinical professionals. Born in the United Kingdom, Peter Francis MD completed his medical degree at the University of Southampton and went on to earn a PhD in Ophthalmic Genetics from University College in London.

After completing his residency, Dr. Francis served as a research and clinical fellow at various prestigious institutions, including the Casey Eye Institute in Portland.Peter Francis has extensive experience as an ophthalmic consultant, researcher, teacher, and clinician. He has contributed significantly to the field of knowledge surrounding retinal degeneration and age-related macular degeneration, and his research findings have been shared widely. Dr. Francis has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and presented at more than 100 national and international conferences in North America, Europe, and Asia. He has eight years of faculty experience in higher education, including appointments abroad and at the Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). As a consultant, Peter Francis MD provides services to biotechnical, investment, research, and pharmaceutical companies.

Peter Francis MD has been recognized for his contributions as a researcher, teacher, and scientist. He has received awards such as OHSU’s Technology and Innovation Award (two years running), the Bupa Foundation National Research Prize, and the Annual Congress of Ophthalmology’s award for best research. Dr. Francis is affiliated with various professional organizations, such as the Macula Society and London’s Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Peter Francis MD volunteers for Eye Care America to provide free eye care to people who are medically underserved. In his community, he volunteers at his son’s elementary school and serves as a volunteer club soccer coach.
